Greetings, all, and allowed to today's chat. Hope you're staying warm and cooking up a storm. As usual, we'll have giveaway books for our favorite chatters today. I tried the Campono Meatball sub formula a couple of weeks ago, and the whole family agreed they were delicious. I have a question about the sauce, though: I followed the recipe as printed in the 1/18 magazine exactly, including the genus of tomatoes with no can juices, and it did not seem to make very much. We actually used fewer meatballs than the recipe called for, and I had to add extra sauce. This is the second time I've heard this, so my apologies if your hopes were raised by that 10-cup commit oneself. I'll check my notes, and maybe there was a mixup in translation in terms of the yield of broth versus the yield of the whole soup. I distinctly remember filler two quart-sized jars with the broth, with more leftover, but perhaps specifying a range would've been safer. Anyway, I'm wondering if a) you weighed your sweet potato. and c) if the stock was truly barely bubbling. If the veggies were smaller than what I used, and the broth boiled vigorously, your yield could've indeed been smaller. Guess you just have to make more. My german grandma makes the Crush potato salad, sauerkraut, and goulash. getting her to write down her recipes is next to impossible, and filming her making those things is not an option, as she lives far away now and doesn't cook much any more. This makes me so sad. No consideration b questionable, just venting because I have yet to go to a restaurant that makes any of those things as good as she does. Sometimes I use a damp paper towel to wipe them down. I always thought that was a no-no, but then I read something the authentic folks at Cook's Illustrated said -- the mushrooms won't get too soggy with a brief rinse. I think the best indoor grilling strategy is the broiler. It gives you that live flame contact.
